Jennifer has followed a career path that has continuously exposed her to both the research and business side of science and innovation. She has worked with and for government laboratories, universities, spin-off companies, technology transfer offices and venture capital groups. As a researcher, she spent over a decade designing, implementing and overseeing short term and long term projects in the fields of oncology and neuroscience. She loved the challenge of moving research data from the bench into the boardroom as a funding or business opportunity. Her subsequent role within an intellectual property law firm gave her the opportunity to work directly with scientists and businesses ranging from local biotechnology startups to multinational corporations. She had the privilege of assisting scientists and research organizations leverage their devices, techniques and data into business assets. Jennifer’s passion has always been developing and implementing strategic plans whether it be for scientific research or to assist a business reach their goal.
Her unique and combined experience has allowed her to understand the value of content marketing, the science behind effective content marketing and the importance of professional branding, especially with professionals in the medical, health and research field.
Jennifer has an Honour’s Degree in psychology which focused on the neurochemistry underlying mental illness. Jennifer then completed a M.Sc. in pharmacology which continued her focus on neurochemistry and mental illness. Jennifer then moved on to a Ph.D. in neuroscience which focused on addiction and withdrawal and the related changes in cell to cell signalling in the brain. Following her Ph.D., Jennifer completed two fully funded NSERC Post-Doctoral fellowships focusing on novel peptide development, neural regeneration and select cancer models. During this time Jennifer also devoted considerable energy to advocate and fundraise for a variety of scientific causes.
Following the completion of her Research Fellowships, Jennifer was hired by an Ottawa based biotechnology company as a researcher and then became Director of In Vivo Cancer Research. Following the arrival of her daughter, Jennifer left the laboratory and moved to an intellectual property law firm to work on patent applications in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical area. Within three years Jennifer advanced into client management, business development and assisting with administrative/operational changes within the firm. Jennifer progressed to the position of Director of Business Development and became part of the firm’s management team.
After 20 years of working and managing in different industries and under a variety of reporting structures Jennifer decided to take her love of innovation and strategic planning and launch a business.
