6 tips to get your creative juices flowing

Summer marketing plan

Fresh summer marketing tip #1 – Get organized with Evernote

Summer is a good time to get organized. Although we don’t actually have more time it feels like we do with the early sun rise and late sun set. Summer is also a time when we feel the most relaxed and willing to take on the challenge of ‘getting organized’.

One of the ways to get organized is with Evernote. A much raved about program that makes modern life a little less complicated.

What’s great about Evernote is that it lets you take notes that are then automatically synched across all your devices. This allows you to capture your inspiration in the moment without ever forgetting.

This is great for me as one of the things I used to do to keep track of my reminders was email myself notes. This often happened when I exercised as I would get a boost of creativity. To ensure I didn’t miss any of my creative insights I would capture my ideas by emailing notes to myself.

While emailing myself isn’t a terrible idea it wasn’t great or very efficient. An app like Evernote integrates with just about everything making life less complicated. Thanks to its cross platform support (desktop, web and mobile) its super easy to offload all your notes, ideas, to-do lists, tasks, journal (you name it) wherever you are. You never have to remember where you left it.

The best thing about Evernote is it is designed to work the way you do.

Fresh summer marketing tip #2 – Discover something new with Canva

Summer is a great time to leverage your creativity. Try a new tool like Canva and have fun creating.

Canva is a free design tool loaded with easy-to-use features and functionality aimed at both beginners and professionals alike. It won’t replace Photoshop, or your graphic designer for those more complex jobs but for simple tasks such as creating blog headers, images for social media sharing and infographics, Canva has it all.

One of the features I love most about Canva is that it is free. Only pay for the images you need at a $1 an image or upload your own. For more advanced features you can pay a monthly fee but much of the free features offered such as drag-and-drop and professional layouts are all standard.

Allowing you to design easily and create consistent stunning branded images all free.

Visuals can then be creatively and effectively used and repurposed throughout your entire social media platforms. Get as much longevity out of the work you do with images and don’t forget about optimizing your images for SEO.

Your images not only engage the brain of your target audience they also help improve your SEO making your content be more easily found through organic searches.

Fresh summer marketing tip #3 – Be accessible – Get mobile friendly

Everyone is mobile. Make your business easy to find and make sure it is mobile friendly.

According to KPCB mobile technology trends key findings “mobile digital media time is now greater than desktop and other media”

Don’t miss out this summer. If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, then you are not providing a positive user experience and likely missing out on new opportunities.

Test now to see how mobile-friendly your site is with ‘think with Google’.

Simply enter your URL and get a report back to see how well your site works across mobile and desktop devices. You’ll get a quick visual report followed by a written report on what improvements you can.

Fresh summer marketing tip #4 – Be easy to find – Google my business

If you have a brick and mortar shop (physical address) that people can come and visit, you will want to get listed with Google My Business. It’s a free business listing that can help you reach new customers even if you don’t have a website. This is great for all of those start-ups and entrepreneurs out there who are just getting started.

Fresh summer marketing tip #5 – Time to grow – email marketing

Is it time to grow your business? Creating a strategic content marketing plan such as blogging is a natural growth progression for your business and brand.

Having the right tools in place will help make your job more efficient and effective. One of the tools you can use to help grow your business is email marketing.

There are many to choose from that offer different functionality and user interfaces. When it comes to choosing the right one for your business consider the features you need now and the ones you will need in the future. Your business is intended to grow so you want a product that will grow with you.

When you understand the audience you are trying to connect you can segment your list to create more personalized messages. Thus making email marketing even more effective and highly cost effective for your business.

Understanding your target audience then becomes a strategic and powerful brain tool for your business and marketing strategy.

Fresh summer marketing tip #6 – Tell a story – engaging storytelling through video

If you’re a beer drinker there’s nothing more refreshing than a cold one on a hot summer day. I recently discovered that I have a bit of a love for craft beer.

One of the incredibly wonderful craft beers that I’ve discovered is Beau’s. Beau’s is a local family-run brewing business with award winning tasty craft beer. Even better, it is made from the highest quality, all natural and organic ingredients.

In addition to loving their beer, I also love their authenticity and transparency. I really enjoyed their behind scenes videos which help tell their story.

They have real people, not actors, who love what they do. They are sharing their story through effective and engaging storytelling.

Brand storytelling is an effective way to share your story, sell your product or share your services. Learn from Beau’s and consider telling your story or creating a behind the scenes video.
